CONCEPTUAL CLIENT
Ode Studio is a high-concept skincare and ritual care brand that reimagines daily routines as intentional moments of connection. The project focused on creating a visual identity that balances clinical precision with emotional depth. At its core, the concept explores how structure and fluidity can coexist within a single, cohesive system.
Ode Studio sits at the intersection of research and ritual. It’s a brand that values both performance and experience — where scientifically backed formulations meet a slower, more mindful approach to self-care.
Rather than separating these worlds, Ode brings them together. It treats skincare not just as a function, but as a moment — something repeated daily, yet never mechanical. The identity reflects this balance, combining clarity with softness, and structure with movement.
The challenge was to visually reconcile two opposing ideas: science and soul.
Skincare brands often lean heavily in one direction — either clinical and stripped back, or expressive and sensory-driven. This creates a disconnect. Too clinical, and the brand feels cold. Too emotional, and it risks losing credibility.
The goal was to create an identity that could hold both — something precise and trustworthy, but also immersive and felt.
The connection between science and ritual lies in repetition.
Both are built on consistent, repeated actions — whether it’s a formulation process or a daily skincare routine. That shared rhythm became the foundation of the concept.
By focusing on repetition as a unifying idea, the identity could feel both structured and fluid. It allowed the brand to express consistency and reliability, while still creating a sense of calm, movement, and continuity.
The identity is built around a system of repeating oval forms — a visual language that captures rhythm, continuity, and flow.
The oval appears across the entire brand: within the logo mark, embedded in the logotype through the ‘o’, and extended into patterns and compositions. This repetition creates a sense of unity, reinforcing the core concept at every touchpoint.
Typography is clean and controlled, providing a clinical foundation that ensures clarity and legibility. This is balanced by the softer, more organic nature of the oval motif, introducing movement and subtle expression.
The colour palette supports this duality — deep, grounding tones paired with lighter neutrals to create contrast without harshness. The overall result is a system that feels calm, precise, and quietly immersive.
The Ode Studio identity is designed as a cohesive system built on repetition and variation.
The oval motif acts as the core building block, allowing for flexibility across applications while maintaining a strong, recognisable thread. It can be scaled, rotated, layered, or repeated to create different visual outcomes, without losing consistency.
This is supported by a structured typographic and layout system, ensuring clarity and balance across all touchpoints. The combination of fixed structure and flexible elements allows the identity to adapt — from packaging to digital — while always feeling intentional and unified.
Rather than relying on isolated elements, the strength of the system comes from how everything works together.
This project challenged me to think beyond visual style and focus on underlying ideas.
Balancing two opposing concepts — science and soul — required a more intentional approach to both strategy and execution. It pushed me to find a unifying principle rather than treating them as separate directions.
One of the key takeaways was the power of repetition within a design system. By consistently applying the oval form across the identity, I was able to create a stronger sense of cohesion and clarity. It reinforced that small, deliberate decisions — when repeated with intent — can have the biggest impact.
Overall, the project deepened my understanding of how concept translates into system, and how a clear idea can guide every design decision.
